An extraordinarily rare historical artifact from the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection. This is a photograph of the actual, original 1927 Great Circle Sailing Chart used by Charles Lindbergh to plot his transatlantic flight. Because the original physical chart was sold at private auction and its current location is unknown, this licensable photograph serves as an exclusive, critical record of his navigational planning.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
This close-up photograph from the Donald A. Hall Estate preserves the exact details of Charles Lindbergh's original North Atlantic Great Circle Sailing Chart. With the physical chart lost to private auction, this image provides an exclusive, licensable look at the actual over-water navigation routes plotted for the Spirit of St. Louis in 1927.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
A defining 1927 portrait of Charles Lindbergh and Chief Engineer Donald A. Hall Sr. standing before the Spirit of St. Louis. This image captures the ultimate division of labor: Hall was entirely dedicated to the groundbreaking aerodynamic engineering, while Lindbergh focused relentlessly on mastering the navigation required for the transatlantic crossing.

A preserved newspaper clipping from the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection documenting the massive celebrations upon Lindbergh's return. The photograph shows Lindbergh delivering a speech at Prospect Park during the Brooklyn welcome parade in June 1927. Donald A Hall was a Brooklyn native and grew up in the city, and he is smiling.

An original New York Herald Tribune clipping dated exactly June 17, 1927, from the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection. The headline "Brooklyn Honors Colonel Lindbergh" details the massive welcome parade hosted just weeks after his historic transatlantic flight. Donald A Hall is present in the photo.

A highly significant 1927 photograph of Charles Lindbergh in the cockpit of a Ryan M-1. Because Lindbergh arrived in San Diego with zero prior experience flying high-wing monoplanes, he utilized the M-1 to gain crucial flight experience and master the handling characteristics required before piloting the Spirit of St. Louis.

An incredible candid alternate angle of a famous 1927 photograph. Charles Lindbergh holds a hand-painted "KEEP OUT" sign near the Spirit of St. Louis, reflecting the intense media frenzy and strict security measures surrounding Donald A. Hall Sr.'s rapid 60-day engineering development of the aircraft.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
An intimate 1927 behind-the-scenes photograph of Charles Lindbergh at the drafting table. Having zero experience navigating over large bodies of water, and famously refusing to ask Navy pilots at North Island for help to avoid ridicule, Lindbergh painstakingly taught himself and manually plotted his own original Great Circle routes.

An exceptionally rare, historically monumental 1927 photograph. This is not a test flight; this is Charles Lindbergh in the fully completed Spirit of St. Louis, having just taken off from Rockwell Field on North Island to begin his first leg to St. Louis, then New York, and ultimately Paris. Chief Engineer Donald A. Hall Sr. and B.F. Mahoney captured this image from their Ryan M-2 chase plane before turning back, watching Lindbergh fly off into the unknown and aviation immortality.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
One of the most poignant and rarely seen photographs in aviation history, preserved in the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection. Taken from beneath the wing of the Ryan M-2 chase plane carrying Donald A. Hall Sr. and B.F. Mahoney, this 1927 image captures the Spirit of St. Louis banking away after departing Rockwell Field. Unaware of the absolute global fame that awaited their creation, Hall and Mahoney watched Lindbergh embark on the very first leg of his legendary transatlantic journey.

The final photograph in the legendary departure sequence. This is Charles Lindbergh in the fully completed Spirit of St. Louis, having just departed Rockwell Field on North Island to begin his first leg eastward toward Paris. Chief Engineer Donald A. Hall Sr. and B.F. Mahoney captured this image from their chase plane before turning back, watching their creation fly off into aviation immortality.

An incredible archival artifact. This dramatic etching of the Spirit of St. Louis battling the ocean waves features a handwritten note of approval from the aircraft's designer himself. He wrote: "You certainly have caught the lines of our ship, Donald A. Hall."
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
A stunning, contemplative self-portrait of Chief Engineer Donald A. Hall Sr. Taken while backpacking through the deep snows of the California wilderness (likely Yosemite), this image captures a moment of quiet reflection following the grueling, historic 60-day development of the Spirit of St. Louis.

Before designing the world's most famous aircraft, Donald A. Hall Sr. endured grueling training as an Army Air Corps flight cadet in Texas. This photograph shows him on the far right, looking visibly exhausted alongside his fellow cadets and instructor after a demanding training flight.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
A fascinating, highly rare look at early 1920s aviation training. Donald A. Hall Sr. photographed this rudimentary, mechanical multi-axis flight simulator, designed to safely train Army Air Corps cadets on the disorienting physical sensations of banking and maneuvering an aircraft.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
Another view of the remarkable early mechanical flight simulator used by the Army Air Corps. This photograph highlights the complex multi-axis gimbal rings required to simulate pitch, roll, and yaw for novice flight cadets before they took to the air.
Donald A. Hall Estate Collection
A highly significant, famous photograph from the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection. This iconic portrait captures the Chief Engineer working intently at his drafting table on the designs for the Spirit of St. Louis, with Charles Lindbergh reportedly in the room. Because the Estate holds the original negative, this specific, pristine exposure is a highly valuable, licensable asset.

This intimate self-portrait captures the relentless dedication of Chief Engineer Donald A. Hall Sr. He is photographed working late at his desk beside a massive filing cabinet, highlighting the intense, grueling hours required to complete the Spirit of St. Louis engineering in just 60 days.

A tantalizing historical artifact. While it heavily resembles the famous Spirit of St. Louis, the specific wing series visible in this photograph identifies it as the bare tubular steel framework of the Model NYP-2—the sister ship sold to Japan shortly after Lindbergh's successful flight to Paris.

An extraordinarily rare, first-person perspective taken by Donald A. Hall Sr. from inside the finished Spirit of St. Louis in flight over San Diego! As documented in the official flight logs currently held at the Missouri Historical Society, Hall rode sitting on the armrest of the wicker pilot's chair while Charles Lindbergh piloted the legendary aircraft.

Chief Engineer Donald A. Hall Sr. captured this in-flight photograph of the Spirit of St. Louis instrument panel to formally document the aircraft's speed, altitude, and vital metrics during testing. The image serves as a crucial engineering record of the components and suppliers that made the 1927 transatlantic flight possible.

To prevent the massive load of highly volatile aviation fuel from shifting and destabilizing the aircraft, Donald A. Hall Sr. engineered these internal baffles from terneplate soft metal. This 1927 photograph highlights the invisible, life-saving engineering hidden inside the fuselage of the Spirit of St. Louis.

This historic building, a former fish cannery, served as the Ryan Airlines factory where Donald A. Hall Sr. engineered and built the Spirit of St. Louis in just 60 days in 1927. During the Great Depression, which devastated his independent Hall Aeronautical Development Company plans, Hall even lived inside this very building for a time.
